I loved this class and I loved expressing myself in this kind of way. I did things I never thought I could have done, like drawing the bike and having it actually look like a bike. I liked exploring and experimenting with things I have never done before, like making a book, flower and fox out of clay. If I could redo my 4 years at HTHS I would take art each year. I feel like I just dipped my toes in the water of possibilities, but I wish I could have gone for a swim. It's upsetting because after this year I don't know if I will be able to take an art class similar, but I wish I could. My favorite parts of the year were still life drawing with charcoal, and molding and shaping the clay. I liked being able to create the things I saw in my head and have them actually look like what I wanted them to. I am going to miss this class next year, and a part of me wishes I failed so I would have a reason to stay and take it again. I added a bunch of random pictures I found in magazines of people I admire. People like Jennifer Lawrence who are both very talented and true to them self. I also added a ticket stub from Meet of Champs where I competed in jav. It was a big part of my senior year competing in jav and how far I made it through the season. I was proud of my self and I hope in the future I will have many other things I do that exceed my initial expectations. Lastly I added a note to my future self. That was the weirdest part of the whole thing. I wrote to myself about what was happening in my life at the time. I also wrote some encouraging things because I have no clue how my life is going to be in 10 years. Its strange thinking about if I could be married and possibly having kids by the time I open this box, or single and traveling or something. Who knows, but it's strange to think about. I decorated my box with things I enjoy doing. I like to sew so I added one of my pop art prints of thread and a button. I also added a cutout of a dress because I like to make clothes. I also added newspaper and teapots all around it because I think they are classy and I think classy should never go out of style.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzZsnfsb4ErSDeKk3MxdUDqBMxLI8NdxR2XA_Nz_xvx7IbsZPlvOIwFMZs6JOBfqh1SdZMz5pgphNz4yEgQQV4WcHfLnCfbBrCOjCOAHVKodz5bpo1Dky92ypJLTA6nsh9vh65iwGT-HPJ/s640/blogger-image-850861800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzZsnfsb4ErSDeKk3MxdUDqBMxLI8NdxR2XA_Nz_xvx7IbsZPlvOIwFMZs6JOBfqh1SdZMz5pgphNz4yEgQQV4WcHfLnCfbBrCOjCOAHVKodz5bpo1Dky92ypJLTA6nsh9vh65iwGT-HPJ/s640/blogger-image-850861800.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgddBbTBdKv0a3dfkCMJRhlcwb9Y_9R5TvRsDMs_Xp1CgUeGGV5p7BWXLbQyLLK-zhR37gB45uduHPKVkn_H4cmQVbBLkw-_dYZm_QRqAxqU9Q6JWrQBU4RX_348AN3DwvBNBNUTrIQagsu/s640/blogger-image--1320635385.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgddBbTBdKv0a3dfkCMJRhlcwb9Y_9R5TvRsDMs_Xp1CgUeGGV5p7BWXLbQyLLK-zhR37gB45uduHPKVkn_H4cmQVbBLkw-_dYZm_QRqAxqU9Q6JWrQBU4RX_348AN3DwvBNBNUTrIQagsu/s640/blogger-image--1320635385.jpg"></a></div>Brenna Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02339301792163147837noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152308600075464763.post-64739138526691477592014-03-25T20:42:00.001-07:002014-06-09T08:40:35.754-07:00A Berry Short Story About A Girl and Her FoxOnce upon a time in a far off land, there was girl named Poesy, Poe for short. She grew up on a farm that had many different animals. Out of all the animals, her favorite was Poppy the fox. Poppy came to the farm when Poe was just 4 years old. So ever since Poe was little, Poppy was part of the family. <div>Every day they would both wake up, eat breakfast, and then go for a walk to pick strawberries in a nearby patch. This day, like every other, started with that routine. When they got to the strawberry patch though, things changed. Instead of Poppy carrying the basket of strawberries back to the farm, she was nowhere to be found. Poe looked down every row of berries and behind every nearby tree, but she was gone. She started screaming, "Poppy, Poppy, where are you!?" but there was no response. So Poesy did what any girl who lost her fox would do, she started searching. She went on every nearby trail she saw, hoping to find Poppy on one of them. She had no such luck. And not only couldn't she find her, but Poe noticed the sky was darkening and clouds were appearing. And with that, a big crack of lightning hit the earth with a downpour of rain to follow. Poesy quickly ran to the nearest place she could take cover in. She found a hollow little tree that she could stay in waiting for the storm to pass since there were no nearby stores or houses. Once the lightning stopped, even though it was still raining, Poe left the tree and continued looking. She wasn't 5 steps out of the tree when a little hummingbird spotted her. This hummingbird was no ordinary bird, she was trying to communicate something to Poe. She flew around in circles over her head and started pulling on her dress. Poe was confused as to what the bird was doing, but didn't question it if the bird knew where Poppy would be. So Poesy followed the bird down a stream and past a big willow tree through the woods. About 5 minutes later Poe heard a familiar sound. It was Poppy eating some strawberries off in the distance in a field. Poe saw her and ran as fast as she could wrapping her arms around Poppy never wanting to let go. To this day Poesy doesn't quite know why Poppy ran off to eat the strawberries, but it doesn't matter because after that they all lived happily ever after. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPljzpjP3P9XVrgTbsBSNxa52qZL350qxBeygXgggZ6uApHxBj40IuN-ztwD9Y6-5eHJenRx4UguEUQMFL1M-BGPOVIoIZqoyARww7zmL5K9PdTNe-Tfjx0DedrJQ1lNxEt1hyMO3EfCt6/s640/blogger-image--1281229987.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPljzpjP3P9XVrgTbsBSNxa52qZL350qxBeygXgggZ6uApHxBj40IuN-ztwD9Y6-5eHJenRx4UguEUQMFL1M-BGPOVIoIZqoyARww7zmL5K9PdTNe-Tfjx0DedrJQ1lNxEt1hyMO3EfCt6/s640/blogger-image--1281229987.jpg"></a></div><br></div>Brenna Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02339301792163147837noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152308600075464763.post-1776583255989902892014-01-23T08:34:00.001-08:002014-01-23T08:34:17.036-08:00Fortune CookieWhen we first opened up our fortune cookies, I was really excited about this project. I was excited about combining all the different elements of each cookie to make one coherent project. Once I started however, I didn't really like it. I first wrote all the lucky numbers on the page and I kept adding layers of paint and tissue paper on top. Then I made a coffee mug and a tree because they were my learn Chinese words. I finished it off by adding some of the cookie wrappers to the empty space. I was really excited about how it would all fit together and look good at first but in the end I was most frustrated because nothing really worked together. I think if I took a different approach I would have liked this project better, but because I didn't I didn't really like what I ended with. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVp3unUWFW-1r-MsNHTRIlsPjB2mAIhN-7wEZYXUDGz14M86gKH7tFXkVoYvCUrH_Nu0o5i2njCE4xsrM-5-5bFaBu4u26IQntwCDWTBijGfZZiKoH413dqBa2rExHj1YrdLGeq-22KiM7/s640/blogger-image-402774834.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVp3unUWFW-1r-MsNHTRIlsPjB2mAIhN-7wEZYXUDGz14M86gKH7tFXkVoYvCUrH_Nu0o5i2njCE4xsrM-5-5bFaBu4u26IQntwCDWTBijGfZZiKoH413dqBa2rExHj1YrdLGeq-22KiM7/s640/blogger-image-402774834.jpg"></a></div>Brenna Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02339301792163147837noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152308600075464763.post-38169195456426554022014-01-23T08:26:00.001-08:002014-01-23T08:26:44.224-08:00Art x3I really enjoyed this project. I thought it was difficult to start because I didn't really know what I wanted to do. Luckily I didn't have to keep that one. Passing the first one off was easy but passing the second off was a little more difficult. The second one I worked on could have been done before I did anything to it. It was difficult to add to but I really liked what it looked like. My final project I was happy with. I kept adding layers and peeling some away. In the end I really liked what I ended with. It was difficult getting a project and adding to it because in some ways it seemed like it didn't need anything. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikNQOsKlEfpek211HtlBUgkyHANvjeBici_24cKJKpF7gfoGtQkuPIw8X0_5DiSrA4rn7U6ONfhS2AZ77-Qj0jMGpYMkq-dGPCLVQa-IRKPTqJDeFWx0NRbqkQXxVmcACy_RhRxCe6FipW/s640/blogger-image--242851949.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikNQOsKlEfpek211HtlBUgkyHANvjeBici_24cKJKpF7gfoGtQkuPIw8X0_5DiSrA4rn7U6ONfhS2AZ77-Qj0jMGpYMkq-dGPCLVQa-IRKPTqJDeFWx0NRbqkQXxVmcACy_RhRxCe6FipW/s640/blogger-image--242851949.jpg"></a></div>Brenna Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02339301792163147837noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152308600075464763.post-91859470453529254422014-01-21T07:33:00.001-08:002014-01-21T07:33:17.654-08:00Bang bang POP POP<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">My favorite part of the pop printing was carving out the stamp. I enjoyed shaving away the rubber part and ending up with the picture I originally drew. I chose to draw a spool of thread and button. At first I thought it would be fun to fill both in with different colors, but when I did it I didn't really like what I got. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ3FtO_H21wMYW7yh_adngFSKpkB2GstGKlu5eVhf-Kj6RnL37D-BV-YtHzbm4_uC2_1tKOugnEH2dhs2AH7xFnKZ4_d_1lB3mRZRuTmrFGyWh8hmVCMTEcLu8iqJ3JyiJtEwOJGNbFcd8/s640/blogger-image-1096555624.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ3FtO_H21wMYW7yh_adngFSKpkB2GstGKlu5eVhf-Kj6RnL37D-BV-YtHzbm4_uC2_1tKOugnEH2dhs2AH7xFnKZ4_d_1lB3mRZRuTmrFGyWh8hmVCMTEcLu8iqJ3JyiJtEwOJGNbFcd8/s640/blogger-image-1096555624.jpg"></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I also did a mass production of solid colors and some that fade into a lighter shade. I liked working with the graphite pencils and the different textures. I also love black and white pictures so I like the final look of the bike. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIWSFXTbV7_9H5xtaOXbkVzjQecRrwIaO2Nnnw09htr6psJ1qChHrwXMb6YTLgW09PGurO6ykqIutM4dCI98fcRPf_sFBDXZGfpmELapY0egRLB4jynSKMvU-bX8lNp9P4tSAd-I-NrUzv/s640/blogger-image-215544734.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIWSFXTbV7_9H5xtaOXbkVzjQecRrwIaO2Nnnw09htr6psJ1qChHrwXMb6YTLgW09PGurO6ykqIutM4dCI98fcRPf_sFBDXZGfpmELapY0egRLB4jynSKMvU-bX8lNp9P4tSAd-I-NrUzv/s640/blogger-image-215544734.jpg"></a></div> I am starting to enjoy the candy jar project more as I got but I find it more challenging. It is hard for me to blend the colors and get the right shading done with the colored pencils. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTsiNImd6DY7NLwCSaS4jlBYJIX-YJTGPOKh-N0s18pYviNCbvJjqHqHZMCbnfj_p-gTNuavTCKo705T3csYUv0EHYRGDpHmbKywMAk0MkXeK2Sct8ZN6q-i_JJobSeGIkELXXuxf9HFUO/s640/blogger-image--2083633137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTsiNImd6DY7NLwCSaS4jlBYJIX-YJTGPOKh-N0s18pYviNCbvJjqHqHZMCbnfj_p-gTNuavTCKo705T3csYUv0EHYRGDpHmbKywMAk0MkXeK2Sct8ZN6q-i_JJobSeGIkELXXuxf9HFUO/s640/blogger-image--2083633137.jpg"></a></div>I am slowly getting done and I think I will like it in the end, but the bike is still my favorite for now. We were told to bring in blue objects to make a collection like Portia Munson. Looking around the table I saw the sun chips, cliff bar, and gum all next to eachother. I think that represents the time we live in because everyone is so concerned about food and consuming. The rest of the collection represents the population as a whole. There are many different objects that have many different purposes and I think that reflects how everyone has different interests. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Nq7fMiptZvwrQ7i7JLSBBd7N0c-OsRfeFiddvIel0t1yhOlKEzTBPkb-jjowj3BY4GZOxcEIwE_X1w285LbGIxY2qxpEoSxTXAqpUQdtEEMX-Rl5Z1WS5gQShAMNdq24JbJg48YhJzul/s640/blogger-image--123619158.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Nq7fMiptZvwrQ7i7JLSBBd7N0c-OsRfeFiddvIel0t1yhOlKEzTBPkb-jjowj3BY4GZOxcEIwE_X1w285LbGIxY2qxpEoSxTXAqpUQdtEEMX-Rl5Z1WS5gQShAMNdq24JbJg48YhJzul/s640/blogger-image--123619158.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Like I said before, our collection is similar to Portia Munson's collections. If someone looked in it they may think it is a box of random pictures and things, but for me, everything in there brings me back to a differrent time of my life. It has pictures and items that were significant to me at a certain time of my life. This box is similar to the boxes of Andy Warhol. He would put together different time capsules that reflected different times of his life. Both mine and his are filled with things we can't get rid of. That is pretty much all I have to say. I am slowly working on each piece of candy and wrapper, and it is taking me forever. It is difficult because of the different color combinations and blending techniques that are needed to make everything look realistic. This is the photo of the angle I am drawing from <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2bvmQ3mvGedMdcoNPVfUuZJ3wEhmKweGUgsp7spA5pQAQYkIJ-99jbDIgRWyOEqq7a9lmxcsTNcqck4nyX0aI9RD0ov2Zt7zHjIfKjbHoHXc-lpk5dtbrh4PpVvZZ8bRvfARBxrbL-q6_/s640/blogger-image--376006983.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2bvmQ3mvGedMdcoNPVfUuZJ3wEhmKweGUgsp7spA5pQAQYkIJ-99jbDIgRWyOEqq7a9lmxcsTNcqck4nyX0aI9RD0ov2Zt7zHjIfKjbHoHXc-lpk5dtbrh4PpVvZZ8bRvfARBxrbL-q6_/s640/blogger-image--376006983.jpg"></a>and this is my progress so far.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiEIFpakZco127q9F4O5dCt37qLbzDhOwOj3a4W9vRIdzRixBMip36X-U9-xngTJAcP6sO5XClAmPO3xSY8ouTvH7Zbqdu7FKIJtv5knw1BMpHnHfqBJSBQfEKrb3rDg_AD8_ty4BqN-nt/s640/blogger-image--419539487.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiEIFpakZco127q9F4O5dCt37qLbzDhOwOj3a4W9vRIdzRixBMip36X-U9-xngTJAcP6sO5XClAmPO3xSY8ouTvH7Zbqdu7FKIJtv5knw1BMpHnHfqBJSBQfEKrb3rDg_AD8_ty4BqN-nt/s640/blogger-image--419539487.jpg"></a>The other thing that is making this more difficult is that I am drawing on a piece of paper that I inked up. I like the paper and I think it adds a little something to the whole, but it sure is different then drawing on plain white paper. </div></div>Brenna Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02339301792163147837noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152308600075464763.post-18242262542421644942013-10-29T08:36:00.000-07:002013-10-29T19:18:31.149-07:00Peddling into the Art of Graphite DrawingsDrawing this bike was a fun challenge for me. I really enjoyed drawing and shading with the graphite pencils. At first, I was really worried to start shading because I <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">thought it would make the bike look furry, but once I started, it brought the whole bike to life. When we were first told to draw a little sketch I didn't know anything about composition. I tried drawing the whole bike with little details in a quarter of a piece of paper. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBZ79oJFvMhY3GZJ4kzKTS-wPg-H7mlpHqjnd-YUhaDiE9o08OZZR76ymWALi8bCr2cHh-p79-IqGOmWrx1v0ysXHDTCW0IjC3JTHYoV_qKZtpq_2hsZ4RYW8CLyXE0Ts3BhYCTzlpjvAG/s640/blogger-image--406262037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBZ79oJFvMhY3GZJ4kzKTS-wPg-H7mlpHqjnd-YUhaDiE9o08OZZR76ymWALi8bCr2cHh-p79-IqGOmWrx1v0ysXHDTCW0IjC3JTHYoV_qKZtpq_2hsZ4RYW8CLyXE0Ts3BhYCTzlpjvAG/s640/blogger-image--406262037.jpg"></a></div> The detail I thought I was doing was nothing compared to what I actually could do. Zooming in on one part of the whole bike I was able to do all the little details to make it look as real as I possibly could. The hardest part was shading the tire to make it look inflated and shading the fender to make it look like shiny metal. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivLLqR9XZQsMx8Hhsz_oHdplNYULNwaD7mfWUsdb6eyFCncbNdAlvE32tJJ6bTl7fd9c1jzpqV2ifx1heAhjQHqf4bJeSqAs2AqA1eDkfYE-qsYIm4BktlmV2sVsjIzj30I5-rLGR8vovE/s640/blogger-image-1153933113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivLLqR9XZQsMx8Hhsz_oHdplNYULNwaD7mfWUsdb6eyFCncbNdAlvE32tJJ6bTl7fd9c1jzpqV2ifx1heAhjQHqf4bJeSqAs2AqA1eDkfYE-qsYIm4BktlmV2sVsjIzj30I5-rLGR8vovE/s640/blogger-image-1153933113.jpg"></a></div>Overall I really enjoyed this project. I was surprisingly pleased with my final result which is good because I'm very critical of myself. I just wish we could draw with graphite the rest of the year because it was challenging but enjoyable at the same time. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div></span>Brenna Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02339301792163147837noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152308600075464763.post-19304144124754205812013-09-12T15:38:00.002-07:002013-09-12T15:38:51.271-07:00First Post<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Hello to all that are reading this! This is obviously my first post so I'm going to tell you a little about myself. My name is Brenna and I am currently a senior in high school. I play soccer and do track as well as costume crew and FCA. I plan to go to Liberty University in the fall of next year and study fashion. This is my first time taking creative arts as a high school student. I am very excited to get my hands dirty with beautiful water colors and ceramics so stay tuned to see what kind of lovely messes I create. </span>Brenna Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02339301792163147837noreply@blogger.com0
